About

I came to running later in life.  Although I ran track in high school, my best results were in the long jump, triple jump, and hurdles.  I played field hockey in high school, a year in college, and throughout my 30s.  I started running off-and-on in my late 20s/early 30s when a teammate of mine started dragging me to 5 and 10Ks with her.  When I started placing in my age group, I thought, “Hmmm, maybe if I trained a little bit more, I could be pretty good at this sport.”

I started reading books about running and soon thereafter followed a training plan. The next thing I knew, I was challenging myself to get faster. And then faster. I never thought I’d run a marathon—too far to really run “fast,” I thought. For my first few years of running, I mostly raced 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons. But I finally decided not to knock something I hadn’t tried and ran my first marathon in 2010.

Now, I’m a master’s runner in the Metropolitan Washington, DC, area. I live in Arlington, Virginia, but I regularly run in Washington, D.C., and Maryland when I get lost on the trail. Since 2007, when I started regularly logging my runs, I’ve finished close to 100 races, ranging from 5K to the marathon. In the past few years, I’ve averaged about 2,800 miles a year with only minor injuries.

This blog is about my training and racing adventures.  I hope you get something out of it, whether related to training, racing, gear, or something else I decide to write about.  Enjoy, and happy running!
