2020 Boston Marathon – Week 5
The theme for the week: hills! On Sunday, I ran a hilly 12 mile long run and then on Tuesday, I did hard 10 x 3-minute hill repeats. I finished the week by racing the 2020 DCRRC JFK 20K on Saturday.

Continue readingNow that the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays were over, I could focus on marathon training! This week was the last relatively easy one of the training cycle. Going forward, the schedule will have three legitimate workouts a week.
Continue readingI returned from Tampa, Florida very early on Sunday morning, slept for a few hours, and then completed a 12 miler in the rain. Two days later, I ushered in the new year by running the 2020 New Day New Year’s 10K.
Continue readingOn Tuesday, I traveled to the warmth of the Tampa area in Florida for the Christmas holiday. I ran Thursday’s marathon-pace workout in Starkey Wilderness Park. My splits were consistent but felt a little hard.
Continue readingMy 2020 Boston Marathon training plan started on Monday! There was only one workout this week – a progression run on Thursday. It was nice easing my way back into running regularly again since the 2019 New York City Marathon.
Continue readingThe afternoon heat made it a tough day but the cheering crowds made the race bearable.
I went into the race with a lot of confidence after running the 2019 Rock n Roll DC Half Marathon in 1:38:36 (7:32 pace) – my fastest half marathon in three years! My goal was sub-3:28:00 (7:57 pace). But, in the days before the race, my knees were killing me.
A few miles into the race, I was already sweating. By the time I reached Newton, running 7:59 pace, the temperature was probably just under 70 degrees! I left that town down to 8:08 pace but rallied in Brookline.
My time was 3:34:40 (8:12 pace). My goal marathon for this spring was actually the 2019 Cleveland Marathon so, I plan to take a few days off and then start training again.
Continue readingDuring my last training week before the 2019 Boston Marathon, all of my runs were easy. (I skipped the 2019 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler on Sunday.) I expected I’d feel better during the taper but I think I felt worse!
Continue readingIt was my last week of workouts and it showed. At the end of Thursday’s workout, I wanted to curl up on the sidewalk and take a nap! But, I enjoyed viewing the cherry blossoms during my runs downtown. Training
Continue readingBoth weekday workouts were run commutes because getting up early was a struggle. My strength workout on Tuesday was done in very windy conditions but I ran well. I booked my flight to Boston so there’s no turning back now!
Continue readingNo long run this week as I adjusted my schedule to run hard on Sundays. Only two workouts but I pushed hard on those days, seeking signs from my legs on whether I could set a marathon PR this spring.
