Summer of 2020 – Week 10

It turned into a bit of an easy week because the speed and threshold workouts weren’t particularly difficult. I also felt a great sense of relief when the London Marathon announced the 2021 race would be canceled. Back in April, I was in no shape to run in a “championship”. Instead of dragging my broken body across a finish line, I’ll have the chance to compete next year.

This week, I was on vacation in the Finger Lakes region of New York. I completed my long run the Saturday before leaving Virginia so I only did two workouts during the trip. Even though there was a rail-trail nearby, I felt safer running them both on the track.

Summer of 2020 – Week 7

I started the next phase of the Daniels’ Running Formula’s half marathon training plan just as my training paces were feeling more comfortable. In the meanwhile, my plantar fasciitis finally felt better! Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I left for a summer vacation in upstate New York on Saturday.

Running was much more enjoyable this week as I paced my workouts at my current fitness rather than my past. It was the last week of Phase II of the Daniels’ Running Formula’s half marathon plan and I decided to continue working on speed rather than graduating to marathon training.

The week started with a slow, hilly long run at the Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. For my other workouts, I settled on paces based on the VDOT tables in Daniels’ Running Formula. Meanwhile, my mind wandered to whether I should bother training for a fall marathon or not.

Northern Virginia entered Phase 2 of COVID-19 re-opening on Friday, which sparked hope about life becoming closer to normal. But after my tempo run on Thursday, I couldn’t put weigh on my right foot and worried that this training cycle was over before it really began.
